Eugene Vindman for Congress

John,

We are now on day 3 of the government shutdown, and Republicans still refuse to come to the table with a good-faith budget that protects health care and lowers costs for American families.

Instead, they’re playing partisan games while federal workers’ livelihoods hang in the balance. This shutdown is punishing our public servants — and it’s unacceptable.

As a 25-year Army officer and the husband of a former federal employee, I know the strain shutdowns place on families. My family has lived through it. That’s why I directed the U.S. House to withhold my salary until the government reopens. Because working families know the truth: If you don’t do your job, you shouldn’t get paid. Members of Congress should play by the same rules.

But right now, Republicans don’t have any skin in the game. While our neighbors face missed paychecks and furloughs, Members of Congress continue to collect their full salaries. That’s wrong.

Back in March, I introduced legislation to block Members of Congress from getting paid during a shutdown.

If you agree that no member of Congress should keep collecting a paycheck while federal workers are left without one, join me in demanding Republicans reject their salaries until they reopen the government.

Republicans deserve to feel the same pressure they’re inflicting on working families. It’s time they stop the political games and do their jobs.
