This week, partners including the funders of our bridge project, the Department for Transport, visited the riverside where the 87metre, 175tonne bridge is awaiting being lifted into place.
A huge 80metre tall crane will lift the bridge into place this November. Nottingham City Council will confirm areas that the public would be able to see the bridge lift. It is expected that the entire bridge lift process will take at several hours, and Nottingham City Council and Balfour Beatty will share pictures and videos of the bridge lift once it is complete.
Once the bridge is lifted into place over the river, further work will take place before the bridge can be used, ramps, steps and hard and soft landscaping will need to be completed including paving, planting and lighting. The bridge is expected to open in Spring 2026.
Don't miss the last days of Goose Fair at the Forest Recreation Ground, as Goosey flies the nest this Sunday!
There will be a final SEND session on Sunday from 12pm-1pm, allowing children and people with special educational needs and disabilities to enjoy the fair without the loud noises and bright lights.
Get the best views of the fair on the Big Wheel, Starflyer, or Skyfall, the world’s tallest portable drop tower. Other rides for thrill-seekers include Time Machine, Aerospace, Top Scan, Air, and Ice Jet. There's also plenty of fun to be had for younger fairgoers on the Gallopers, Teacups, Helter Skelter, and Cake Walk, plus dozens of side-show games and attractions.
Food is always a highlight at the fair and along with the traditional fairground favourites of mushy peas and Cocks-on-Sticks, visitors can eat their way around the world with a diverse range of food.
Please be aware that stormy weather is forecast. While there are no plans to close the fair, some rides may pause operations depending on wind conditions. For the latest updates, please follow What's On Nottingham on social media.

How to get to Goose Fair.
We’re proud to share that Nottingham City Centre has climbed an incredible 64 places in the UK retail rankings, making it one of the fastest-rising city centres in the country surpassing major cities like Birmingham and Glasgow! 🏅
On top of that, Nottingham has also been named the number one retail centre in the East Midlands – ahead of Stamford, West Bridgford, Lincoln and Leicester.
This success reflects all the hard work to regenerate and re-energise our city centre, support local businesses, and create a vibrant place to shop, work and visit.
11,483 people have taken part in a public engagement survey about the future of local government in Nottinghamshire.
The six-week survey, which closed on Sunday 14 September, invited residents, businesses, and local organisations to share their views on the biggest shake-up to local government in over 50 years, known as Local Government Reorganisation (LGR). The survey was jointly conducted by all nine councils in Nottinghamshire affected by government plans to create new ‘unitary authorities’.
