1) The Myth of the Affordability Crisis

We’re hearing it everyday that Americans are facing an affordability crisis. Housing, tuition, health care, and grocery prices are rising fast. But over the first six months of Trump’s second term, affordability has gone up, not down. Through June inflation adjusted median household incomes are up about $1,100 per household.

The stress that consumers are feeling about affordability is the hangover effects of the near 20% rise in prices under Bidenomics from 2021-23.

Who Caused the “Affordability Crisis?”

Also, don’t forget that the average family will see a near $2,000 tax savings next year due to the Trump tax cut passed in July.

2) War Against The Machine

We're continually surprised at how many otherwise smart people think that robotics and AI will make us poorer and jobless.

Maybe we shouldn't be surprised. Some pretty famous people in the past were luddites - even Einstein, a certified genius.

3) The Freedom Movement Still Hasn’t Recovered From COVID Lockdowns

The latest edition of the Fraser Institute's Economic Freedom of the World Report ([link removed]) is out, with data through 2023. Freedom's march over the past several decades took a huge hit from the Stalinist global COVID lockdowns of 2020-21. Even worse: the blow to human liberty still hasn’t recovered from those evil edicts.

The good news is that, where people have it, freedom still works. Why oh why is this universal and immutable truth still so hard to understand: more freedom means higher living standards. Somebody please tell this to New Yorkers.

4) All the News That’s Fit to Be Made Up

Just when you thought that trust in the media couldn’t slink any lower, a new Gallup Poll finds the lowest ever public regard for the media.

Gallup found that confidence in newspapers, television, and radio has fallen to 28%, the first time the measure has slipped below 30%. Meanwhile, 36% of Americans say they have “not very much” confidence, and 34% say “none at all.” Seven in ten Americans lack meaningful trust in mainstream media.

There is a clear partisan divide here. While half of Democrats have trust in the media, the number was 27% among independents, and only 8% among Republicans. Younger people, who get most of their news online, trust the media even less than their elders.

Can we blame them? Our favorite modern example of the crooked media was the cockeyed reports of “mostly peaceful” protests in the streets of our major cities when Americans could see the chaos, violence and mayhem happening right in front of them and on their TV screens.

5) American Wealth Has Risen Four Times Faster Than Europe’s

We noted last month that the U.S. equity markets have blown away Japan’s in recent decades. This Laffer Associates chart shows that over the past two decades, the U.S. stock market’s gains have quadrupled (semi-log scale) the meager gains in Europe. That’s in large part to the U.S. dominance in the multi-trillion-dollar tech industry. Thank you, Google, Microsoft, Amazon, Apple etc.
