The Trump administration wants to strip protections from the Boundary Waters to make way for a copper-nickel mine: [link removed]

Dear Friend,
While many critical government programs and services are on hold during a federal shutdown, the Trump administration has deemed pollution as essential by keeping part of the Department of the Interior open for mining and drilling business.
That is why it is more important than ever to keep up the pressure and tell the Trump administration we are opposed to the proposed plan to build a polluting copper-nickel mine at the doorstep of one of North America’s most treasured landscapes.
The Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness in northern Minnesota is the most visited wilderness in the country. It is a vast network of over 1,000 lakes and unspoiled forests containing 20 percent of all the freshwater in the entire National Forest System.
It’s also near where Chilean mining giant Antofagasta is trying to build the toxic Twin Metals copper-nickel mine.
The Department of the Interior wants to give Antofagasta exactly what it wants by removing a 20-year mining ban that protects the headwaters of the Boundary Waters from toxic pollution.
For years, Earthjustice and a coalition of conservation and sportsmen’s groups, and local businesses fought hard to secure this mining ban. Now, the Trump administration is going against the public’s interests in favor of polluters. Tell the Interior Department today not to sell off the Boundary Waters.
The mine would do nothing for American energy or jobs. The minerals produced would be shipped out of the U.S. for processing and then sold on the world market.
What is essential is the protection of habitat for hundreds of species like wolves, moose, loons, lynx, and walleye. As climate change shrinks our planet’s biodiversity, we can’t afford to lose the Boundary Waters — or the thousands of jobs it sustains for the region’s outdoor tourism economy.
Tell the Interior Department to protect our public lands, not open them up to toxic pollution.
Sincerely,
Julie Goodwin
