Boysko Bulletin: Your Voice Matters More Than Ever
Dear Friend,
You can vote now for the November 4 election. I urge you to do your research, select the candidate that you most align with, and use your voice by casting your ballot. The differences between the candidates are profound. Every year, there are some elections decided by just a handful of votes. You may recall that in my first race, I lost by only 32 votes. Your participation matters. I have already voted and am supporting the candidates Abigail Spanberger for Governor, Ghazala Hashmi for Lt. Governor, Jay Jones for Attorney General, and my delegate Irene Shin to represent me in the House of Delegates.
I’ve been working hard to prepare for the 2026 General Assembly Session, with more than 20 bills being drafted and several more in the works. My legislative slate so far includes healthcare workforce bills, screening for a rare disease at birth, and protections in assisted living facilities, employment benefits, closing the wage gap, criminal justice reforms to protect children and people with disabilities, public safety, reproductive freedom, antibullying protection in private schools, and protections for renters (half of all housing in Virginia).
Meanwhile, I continue to push against the harmful and often cruel actions of our current federal administration. With all the talk about who is responsible for this federal government shutdown, it’s important to remember what’s at stake here: thousands of dollars in healthcare benefits for those who need it most are at risk, and Republicans would rather shut the government down than provide for Americans who desperately need access to affordable healthcare.
It is heartbreaking that we continue to see violence against people practicing their religion. Violence creates fear and division; it does not persuade or even inform or solve problems. We can disagree without dehumanizing each other. We can protest without violence. We can pass laws that keep guns out of the hands of people who are not legally allowed to have a gun or are suffering a mental health crisis. I will continue to fight for peace and a welcoming, diverse community.

Our Fairfax County parks and recreation facilities remain open during the federal government shutdown. This is the perfect time to get outside and go for a walk or bike ride. We also have access to parks via NOVA Parks [[link removed]] . And Virginia has 43 state parks [[link removed]] with thousands of campsites, hundreds of cabins, more than 700 miles of trails and convenient access to Virginia's major waterways. You’ll find beaches, picnic shelters, lodges, meeting facilities, festivals, concerts, nature programs, and cultural events.

Wildlife Rescue League operates a wildlife assistance helpline that provides the public with advice, resources and referrals to licensed wildlife rehabilitators. Wildlife Rescue League is committed to educating the public about the natural history of native wildlife, how to exist with our wild neighbors and preventing the need for wildlife rehabilitation.
I found the bird in the photo above, kept it overnight and then delivered it to a bird rehabber in Annandale. Hopefully the bird makes a full recovery with the help of the Wildlife Rescue League rehab volunteer.
If you are in Northern Virginia (as far south as Fredericksburg and west as Fauquier County) you can get assistance by contacting WRL Wildlife helpline , 703-440-0800, between 9 am and 7 pm (7 days a week).
