Republicans’ decision to shut down the government, rather than extend subsidies that make health insurance affordable for millions of Americans, is a reminder why flipping the House to Democrats in 2026 is so important.
Since states like Texas and Missouri are gerrymandering their congressional maps to try and lock in GOP power before a single ballot is cast, passing California’s Proposition 50 ballot measure this year will be critical to making sure Democrats still have a fair chance at flipping the House next year.
Prop 50 allows voters to decide whether to temporarily redraw California’s own maps ahead of the midterms to counter the GOP’s power grabs. Swing Left volunteers have already spent thousands of hours on the phones calling voters in support of the measure—and those conversations do make a difference. But with just over 4 weeks left until Election Day, we need to keep up the momentum.
