The federal government shutdown is putting vital child programs in serious jeopardy. If Congress doesn’t act soon, kids could lose critical support – from healthy food to infant formula to newborn health screenings.

You’ve heard about the government shutdown… but do you know how deeply it could hurt kids and families?  

Here’s the reality:  

• For the first time since late 2018, Congress failed to pass spending bills –  so the government officially shut down yesterday.  
• Kids should never bear the brunt of a political stalemate. This shutdown must end to ensure critical programs like WIC continue without disruption.
• On Thursday, October 1st, a $3.2 billion recission of global hunger-fighting, child protection and education funds also took effect. 

John, children’s futures are under threat worldwide. We’re asking advocates across the nation to demand action – will you add your voice?

Historically, essential programs for children and families continued to operate during federal government shutdowns.  

But states have extremely limited resources right now, and programs are running on tight budgets. 

If the government remains shuttered, vital nutrition programs may have to cut back services in the next few weeks.  

The longer this drags on, the worse the consequences could be. Tell Congress: Enough is enough. End the shutdown. Invest in America. Invest in kids!
