The federal government is now in Day 2 of a total shutdown after Republicans in Congress refused to make any concessions to Democrats.

What’s at issue? Trump’s MAGA puppets in the Senate, including our very own unelected Senator Ashley Moody (R-Alligator Alcatraz), approved deep and devastating cuts to Medicaid and other social services this year, and are now allowing essential support for health insurance premiums that lower costs for millions of Americans to expire.

It is clear that MAGA Republicans don’t care how many people suffer and die so long as they get what they want: a joyride on Trump’s corrupt $400 million Qatari jet, and the promise of permanent power as Trump mobilizes the “full force” of the U.S. military against American citizens in blue cities and states.

But this shutdown fight is not just a wonky disagreement about healthcare policy or soaring healthcare costs—it’s about taking a stand against Donald Trump’s fascism, dividing Americans against each other, and brazen law-breaking.

And it’s about not giving in when our lives and freedoms are held hostage.

The filthy lies that the GOP is using to justify keeping the government shut down indefinitely include that Dems want “free healthcare” for “illegals.” And our very own national embarrassment, the accidental Senator Ashley Moody, delivers Trump’s talking points with gusto in the Fox News echo chamber:

Despite these malicious lies, a Washington Post poll just found that 47% of the public rightly blame Republicans for the shutdown and only 30% blame Democrats. 

It’s time to shut this nonsense down. Now is the time to show our strength and our grit. 

Republicans in Congress will continue to help Trump consolidate power and rip up the Constitution unless we take a stand. We are going to let the MAGA lunatics in charge know that the people are fed up—and we’re coming together to fight back.
