CSVANW Marks 30 Years of Breaking Cycles of Violence with Fundraiser, 10th Annual 5K, & Domestic Violence Awareness Month

Albuquerque, N.M. — This October, the Coalition to Stop Violence Against Native Women (CSVANW) enters its 30th anniversary year, honoring three decades of movement, medicine, and cycle-breaking across Tribal Nations and Pueblos in New Mexico.

For 30 years, CSVANW has stood with survivors, families, and communities, breaking cycles of violence and planting seeds of healing. The organization leads with kinship, culture, and accountability, creating safe spaces for survivors, advocating for policies that save lives, and training advocates to respond with trauma-informed, culturally grounded care.

“As we launch our anniversary year during Domestic Violence Awareness Month, we honor our ancestors, celebrate survivors, and recommit to building futures free from violence,” said Tiffany Jiron, Executive Director of CSVANW. “Our work is simple and sacred: believe survivors, prevent harm, change systems, and heal together.”

October 3: Fundraiser & Kick-Off of 30th Anniversary Year

CSVANW’s anniversary year begins with a special fundraiser on Friday, October 3, 2025, at the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center. Guests will experience a small outdoor art exhibit, “30 Years of Cycle Breaking,” highlighting the resilience of survivors and communities. Funds raised will directly support survivor services, youth prevention, policy advocacy, and specialized trainings.

Every gift helps sustain CSVANW’s impact, from advancing the state’s Turquoise Alert System, to training hundreds of advocates each year, to convening wellness, art, and storytelling spaces for collective healing.

October 11: 10th Annual I Will Run for Them 5K

CSVANW will host its 10th Annual I Will Run for Them 5K on Saturday, October 11, 2025 at Isleta Lakes & RV Parks. This community run invites participants to honor survivors, remember loved ones lost to violence, and carry forward prayers of healing through movement. On-site registration is available, and for the first time, CSVANW is offering a virtual run so relatives outside of New Mexico can join.

“Movement is medicine, and today, our movement is all of us, standing shoulder-to-shoulder with survivors,” Jiron added.

October: Domestic Violence Awareness Month

Throughout October, CSVANW joins the national call of Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM) under the theme “Cycle Breakers Since 1492.” This campaign honors the endurance of Native ancestors and uplifts the strength of survivors, families, and advocates working to end violence in Tribal communities.

4 in 5 Native women experience violence in their lifetime, these are not just statistics, but mothers, sisters, daughters, aunties, and nieces. CSVANW insists that survivors deserve more than crisis response; they deserve prevention, safety, and thriving futures.

Looking Ahead: 30th Anniversary Celebration

CSVANW will close its anniversary year with a 30th Anniversary Celebration on Friday, December 5, 2025 at the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center. The event will uplift art, culture, and community while honoring three decades of cycle-breaking work.
