“Kickapoo Lucky Eagle Casino shooting: Arrest records show gunfire erupted near entrance,” San Antonio Express-News’ Annasofia Scheve -- “An arrest affidavit for the man charged in a deadly shooting at an Eagle Pass casino details the moments just after gunfire broke out, but provides few specifics about what led up to the shooting and how authorities identified him.

San Antonio resident Keryan Rashad Jones, 34, is charged in connection with the Saturday night shooting at the Kickapoo Lucky Eagle Casino, which killed two and injured five.

Officials identified the victims as mother of five Alicia “Daniela” Sanchez and former Border Patrol agent Marcus Antley.

Around 7:30 a.m. Sunday, deputies in Wilson County arrested Jones after a vehicle pursuit. Authorities had said shortly after the shooting that a black Nissan Frontier truck was believed to be involved.

In the days following the shooting, the Kickapoo Traditional Tribe of Texas Police Department and Maverick County Sheriff’s Office did not release further details on how the fatal incident unfolded.

However, Sanchez’s mother told the San Antonio Express-News her daughter was shot in the parking lot of the casino while getting ready to drive home to her children.

An arrest affidavit for Jones confirms that the shooting took place near an entrance to the casino.

Kickapoo police responded to the casino about 11:50 p.m. and found seven people with gunshot wounds near a crosswalk and pathway outside the A-11 entrance, according to the document. Publicly available maps of the casino do not identify which entrance is A-11.

While first responders tended to the victims, officers began searching for Jones and the black Nissan Frontier he was believed to be driving, the affidavit says. The document does not provide information on how law enforcement identified him as a suspect.

Police notified other nearby law enforcement agencies of the shooting so they could look out for the vehicle, too.

Antley was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the affidavit, while Sanchez was pronounced dead at the Fort Duncan Regional Medical Center. Each of the five wounded was transported to the hospital, too.

The affidavit did not give insight into a possible motive for the shooting, and authorities have not released further information.

After his capture in Wilson County on Sunday morning, Jones was transported to the Maverick County jail, where he remains in custody with total bail set at $4.5 million. He is charged with two counts of capital murder and five counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

The casino is closed until further notice, according to a statement posted on social media Monday.

“We are heartbroken by the tragic events that occurred at Kickapoo Lucky Eagle Casino this weekend,” the casino said. “Our deepest condolences go out to the victims, their families, and all those affected.”

A shooter also opened fire outside the casino in December 2021, according to a past release from the Dimmit County Sheriff’s Office, which arrested a suspect. There were no injuries reported, the casino said in a statement at the time.

Anyone with information on the Saturday shooting is asked to contact the Kickapoo Traditional Tribe of Texas Police Department at 830-421-5322.” SAEN ($)
