John,

There is nothing quite like fall in Connecticut, is there? Maple leaves blazing along the trails, crisp air by the shoreline, harvest colors across hillsides. These moments remind us just what makes this place home.

My family and I love to drive around the state and take in the breathtaking views from state parks, to our reservoirs and waterfalls, and all of the beautiful rural areas around our state (side note: we also eat our fair-share of cider donuts), With all that said, I was reminded of exactly what’s at risk this election.

Because here’s the thing. These state parks and trails don’t maintain themselves. The funding that keeps the boardwalks, bridges, and trail markers that guide us all depends on whether we elect leaders who are willing to invest in our communities.

Just this summer, Governor Lamont and Democratic leaders delivered $14 million to protect more than 2,200 acres of open space and create six new community green spaces. That means more trails, more forests, and more places for families to enjoy Connecticut’s outdoors.

And it's not just our outdoor spaces. The local coffee shop where you get your favorite latte and say hello to your neighbors, the independent bookstore with a window full of fall favorites, and the family-owned restaurant where you gather for Sunday dinner all depend on programs like the Connecticut Small Business Boost Fund.

This fund provides affordable loans of up to $500,000 to help small businesses and keep Main Streets across Connecticut alive. Programs like this exist because Democrats fought for them.

The candidates we elect next month will decide whether to prioritize green spaces, if small business support programs get local backing, and whether our towns invest in the infrastructure that makes Connecticut special.

I know it's easy to take for granted the beauty of Connecticut, but your grassroots support of CT Democrats fuels the candidates who will protect what we love about Connecticut.
