Supporter, what's your favourite memory from a National Park? For many it's time spent in natural beauty, for others it's about exploring the great outdoors with family. This is true for our Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer who has often publicly reflected on the joy of annual holidays to the Lake District.

You can imagine our shock when we heard rumours that some in Westminster are considering significantly weaken protections by removing the Protected Landscapes duty - the only real power they have to secure action for nature, and help meet the UK’s international 30by30 obligations.

The previous government strengthened the law protecting National Parks and it’s truly transformational – the biggest step forward in National Park protection that we've been campaigning on for 30 years.

If the rumours are true, this would be taking sledgehammer to any promise of greater protections for our National Parks - we will not let this happen.

TAKING A STAND

This is an unprecedented threat to 30 years of campaigning for our National Parks. We're throwing everything we have at stopping this and calling on the full force of organisations, local groups and businesses and national charities who live in, care for and depend on National Parks.

We're also working behind the scenes, raising our concerns with Steve Reed (Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government) at the Labour Party Conference this week, as well as others at the Liberal Democrat Party Conference.

You can help in two ways:
1. Send a letter to your MP, asking them to retain the Protected Landscapes Duty
2. Donate, our independence from government means we can speak out for Protected Landscapes when no-one else can, but we need your support to keep our voices raised.
