Dear John,

Today, Born Free is mourning the loss of one of the greatest wildlife heroes of our time, our friend and colleague Dame Jane Goodall, who devoted her life to the protection of the chimpanzees she so loved.

We have other major news to share this month, not least a formal agreement with the United Nations in Kenya, and helping organise a significant event at the Labour party conference in Liverpool.

But, as you know, at Born Free it’s all about the one. To us, each animal, each person counts. So, we happily start this month’s update with joyous news about ‘just one’ lion in Kenya, and ‘just one’ member of our team in South Africa.

Congrats to Sahara!

It’s been quite a journey… This beautiful lioness was just a cub when found with an arrow piecing her leg, by our team in Kenya. Thankfully, after medical care, Sahara recovered. But three years on, why are we rejoicing?

BIG CAT CHAMPION

([link removed])

You’re going to be so inspired by Glen Vena, the star of our second Wildlife Heroes short films, which launches at 3pm tomorrow. A key member of our sanctuary care team in South Africa for over 25 years, his love for our rescued lions and leopards only grows.

CRIME CLAMPDOWN

Born Free has forged an alliance with the United Nations in Kenya! Together, we’re creating a powerful new force for conservation and development, in two key landscapes – Amboseli and Meru.

Great (ape) news!

Come with us to the rainforests of Cameroon and meet the incredible Great Ape Guardians. These locals, trained in conservation, help stop poaching and help people co-exist with rare gorillas.

MEET THE TEAM ([link removed])

Before we go, just a reminder that all this work to keep wild animals safe and end their exploitation is only possible because of YOU. Thank you for caring. Thank you for being a key part of team Born Free.

With love and gratitude from your wild friends
