I am no stranger to flying into Houston.

It's where Elizabeth was living when I first met her. She was a young professor then, building a life with her two kids, her parents, and her Aunt Bee.

I was teaching in Connecticut at the time and would come visit her whenever I could. I still remember those trips well, because those visits are when we decided to build a future together.

In just a few weeks, Elizabeth will be back in Houston for the third Democratic presidential debate, fighting for an America where everyone gets to build a brighter future.

Before the first Democratic presidential debate in June, I was backstage with Elizabeth, walking her from the green room to the stage.

Here is the most important thing I can tell you about Elizabeth: She is never afraid to fight for what she believes in. We have been married for 39 years now, and we never imagined that she would someday be returning to Houston to speak with millions of Americans.
