It’s official:

Republicans in Washington shut down the government last night after failing to come to an agreement on a funding bill that would put hard working Americans first.

I spoke to KATU about the shutdown and the importance of funding resources that Americans rely on:

Democrats spent weeks trying to negotiate to avoid a shutdown, but instead of coming to the table with a clean bill that represents the needs of Oregonians and people across the country, Speaker Johnson sent my Republican colleagues home.

Now, they’re placing the blame for this shutdown entirely on us — and they’re even running attack ads against me for it!

Let’s get it straight: Republicans control the House, the Senate, and the presidency. If they can’t pass a budget that supports the average working American, protects our healthcare, and doesn’t give our money to billionaires, it’s on them.

Healthcare is nothing to play with. I’ve held 18 town halls this year across the district, and I’ve heard over and over again that healthcare is non-negotiable. So I can’t — and I won’t — vote for a budget that doesn’t put Oregonians first.

It’s time Republicans stop playing political games and start delivering real solutions — and that’s exactly what I’m fighting for. I’m standing up in the House to ensure we reach a deal that centers the American people and safeguards healthcare. This will be a tough fight, so if you can, I’d appreciate your support in this critical moment.
