Now, hundreds of thousands of federal workers face uncertainty as paychecks are delayed and critical services are disrupted.

But the damage doesn’t stop there. Climate and science agencies were already barely hanging on after Trump’s cuts earlier this year. Now, with even less staff, funding, and resources, the federal government is more unprepared than ever to handle the climate risks we’re facing.

To make matters worse, this is happening in the middle of hurricane season, as two storms in the Atlantic threaten the East Coast. The agencies we depend on — like FEMA — to respond and protect our communities from extreme weather events are left scrambling with depleted resources. And if a major climate disaster hits, agencies won’t even be able to appeal to Congress for emergency funds.

Bottom line, John: The GOP is playing with the health and livelihoods of millions of Americans.
