E.J. Antoni will not be leading the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The White House officially withdrew his nomination following public outcry, growing scrutiny, and bipartisan opposition.[1]
More than 7,000 People For supporters signed our petition demanding the Senate reject him – and it worked.
Let’s be clear: Antoni wasn’t nominated for his qualifications. He had no experience managing a federal agency and no background in producing independent labor statistics. What he did have was a long history of echoing Trump’s political attacks on the BLS – and a record of manipulating economic data to fit an ideological narrative.
Trump wanted someone who wouldn’t push back when told to bury bad news or spin a weakening jobs report. Antoni fit that mold.
But what made this nomination truly dangerous – and ultimately indefensible – was what came to light after he was nominated. Investigations revealed Antoni had operated a secret Twitter account where he spread 2020 election lies, COVID conspiracies, and bigoted, hateful content. He mocked LGBTQ+ people, attacked Kamala Harris with degrading language, and referenced Nazi-era weapons – all while using thinly-veiled aliases to mask his identity.
That’s who Trump wanted to hand the keys to our nation’s labor data.
Thanks to people like you who raised the alarm, he won’t get that chance.
We’re surrounded by serious fights – against disinformation, political takeovers, and rising extremism. But moments like this remind us that when we act together, we can still win. We stopped this nomination. We exposed the danger. And we showed that public pressure works. Let’s carry that momentum forward.
