Friend, we were in the room at Tuesday’s open meeting of the Federal Communications Commission (aka the Federal Censorship Commission). What we witnessed should alarm everyone who cares about free speech and democracy.
During the meeting, the FCC voted to roll back rules that helped schools and libraries provide Wi-Fi and hotspots for students and families.
Last month, Carr abused his office to threaten broadcasters into silencing Jimmy Kimmel.
And right now, he’s paving the way for broadcasting giant Nexstar to swallow up Tegna. This merger would expand one company’s national reach to a staggering (not to mention unlawful) 81 percent of all U.S. households.
Free Press is exposing these abuses, showing up at every FCC meeting, calling for Carr to resign and mobilizing thousands of people to fight back. Grassroots donations from emails like this one make our advocacy, policy and organizing work possible — will you make your very first gift to Free Press to help us keep up the fight with everything we’ve got?
Carr’s corruption isn’t subtle. Not even a little bit.
He brags about forcing networks to bend the knee to Trump. He tweets out GIFs making light of his censorship schemes. He hands favors to conglomerates that toe the Trump line. And he’s rewriting the rules to concentrate more power in fewer hands.
The pattern is clear — and unless we stop it, it will only get worse.
That’s why Free Press is preparing for the attacks ahead. With your support, we can hold Carr accountable, block dangerous mergers and protect free speech.
We’ve seen what public pressure can do — from forcing Disney/ABC to put Jimmy Kimmel back on the air to mobilizing thousands of people against media consolidation. Let’s keep it up.
If you’re with us, make your very first gift to Free Press today. Anything you can give will strengthen our fight against the Federal Censorship Commission.
Thank you for standing with us,
