Dear john,
I wanted to reach out and see if you or a loved one are affected by the government shutdown. My team and I are collecting stories to talk about the real, devastating effects of this shutdown. You can submit your story here.
Last week, I sent out a newsletter about the devastating consequences a shutdown would have on our community. You can see some of the provisions below:
92,000 people in Texas’ 16th Congressional District will see their health care costs increase if Republicans let critical tax credits expire.
- For a 60-year-old couple earning, $82,800 a year, annual premiums will increase by $17,290 or 265%.
- For a family of four earning $64,000 a year, annual premiums will increase by $2,571 or 263%.
- For a family of four earning $129,800 a year, annual premiums will increase by $9,073 or 86%.
43,424 people in Texas’ 16th Congressional District will lose health coverage because of Republican cuts to Medicaid (also known in Texas as STAR+PLUS).
To help the estimated 18,000 federal employees living in our community, my office has created a webpage that includes information on what a shutdown means, how our community will be affected, frequently asked questions (FAQs), and more. As we learn more, my team will be updating this page so please check it frequently.
My El Paso office will remain open and be available to help you in any way we can. You can call us at 915-541-1400 or visit us on the 15th floor of the Wells Fargo building downtown.
I encourage you to subscribe to my newsletter and ensure you're following my social media pages @repescobar to stay informed and updated.
