A government shutdown isn’t an abstract debate in Washington. Here in Virginia, it hits home.
Our community has one of the largest populations of federal workers in the country. They are our neighbors, our friends, our family members. When the government shuts down, they are the first to feel it. Missed paychecks. Mounting bills. Anxiety about how to keep food on the table or cover the mortgage.
That’s why this moment feels so personal to me. I’ve sat across the table from federal workers in our district who take such pride in serving their country, and now they're at risk of losing their livelihoods.
Let’s be honest: this is a Republican-caused shutdown. They want to keep firing federal workers and strip people of their health care access. That’s not leadership. It’s a betrayal of the very people who make our government run.
To every family in our district who is feeling the weight of this crisis: I see you, I’m fighting for you, and I won’t stop pushing until we have a government that works for you, not against you.
With gratitude,
Suhas
