Republicans have shut down the government — and they did it because they refused to put the American people ahead of Donald Trump’s harmful agenda.

Just as we anticipated — Trump and his allies in Congress made it abundantly clear: They are not interested in good-faith negotiations. He gave clear marching orders, and as always, Congressional Republicans fell in line, putting their loyalty to Trump before their duty to the families who elected them — families who work hard, pay taxes, and deserve a government that works for them.

No matter how they spin it, this shutdown is the result of their abject failures.

Democrats aren’t responsible for bailing out a Congress beholden to a con man. And as long as Republicans insist on stripping health care from millions and making it more expensive for everyone, we must fight back — with every tool we have.

This moment is bigger than politics. It’s about protecting our families, our health care, and our futures. It’s a reminder that we need more fighters in the Senate.

That’s why I’m running for U.S. Senate — to take this fight to Washington and prove Democrats will never stand by while our democracy is stripped away by a wannabe king.

But I can’t do it alone. We need to show them we have the people power to win.
