Republicans just shut down the federal government. We House Democrats were in Washington ready to work to fund the government and do something to bring down high costs pounding hardworking Western Pennsylvanians and folks across the country.

Let’s be clear: Republicans have full control in Washington. Their decision to shut down the government is foolish, partisan, and reckless—and it’s all to avoid working with Democrats to clean up the mess they caused.

House Republicans have been on vacation for more than a week, ducking their responsibility to keep the government funded and running—all while my Democratic colleagues and I have been in DC ready to work.

It’s time for Republicans to cut their vacation short, come back to Washington, and negotiate in good faith to reopen the government and deliver a deal that works for the American people to lower costs and protect healthcare.
