Last night at midnight, the Republican-held Congress failed to reach a budget deal. This morning, we woke up to the federal government in shutdown. This is the first time the government has shut down in seven years (the last time was also during a Trump presidency).
That means that not only are an estimated 750,000 federal employees preparing to be furloughed, but the many federal services you rely on will also be affected.
A quarter of employees at the Federal Aviation Administration are expected to be furloughed, affecting your ability to travel.
Surgeries and procedures in military medical and dental facilities are being postponed.
Regional Veterans Affairs benefits offices will be closed.
Headstones won’t be placed and burial grounds won’t be maintained at National Veterans' cemeteries.
Food assistance programs may run out of food within days.

The American people deserve better than this. If you rely on food assistance or have just lost a loved one who is a Veteran, you shouldn’t be concerned about how to replace those services because Republicans can’t do their jobs.
Americans deserve leaders who care more about doing what's right than just winning elections or chasing headlines. We need people in office who focus on real issues—like making sure families can afford groceries—not just on scoring political points.
