Donald Trump and his MAGA allies in Congress just forced a government shutdown.
Here in New Mexico, more than 22,000 federal workers and their families are now facing a wall of uncertainty. People don’t know when their next paycheck will come. Mothers will struggle to access WIC benefits to feed their families, and veterans will have a harder time accessing critical services.
All because Donald Trump would rather make Americans sicker by raising the cost of healthcare than keep the government open.
This is deliberate cruelty carried out by people who’ve never had to live with the consequences of their own chaos: Donald Trump has never known what it’s like to miss a paycheck or to not know where your next meal will come from. He’s never had to choose between filling a prescription and paying the rent. But I have. And so have thousands of New Mexicans.
We need leaders who understand the decisions made in Washington have real and harmful impacts on everyday New Mexicans. That’s why I’m running for Governor.
When Washington abandons people, governors are the first line of defense. New Mexicans deserve a leader who truly understands their struggles and will fight fiercely to protect them. I’m ready to fight and deliver every day for New Mexicans, but I can’t do it alone.
If you’re not able to contribute today, I completely understand — know that I’m so grateful for everything you’re doing to support our campaign. But if you’re in a position to do so, we are days away from our final public reporting deadline this year, so any grassroots donation today will be a HUGE help. Even a little bit helps us build a campaign to serve all New Mexicans.
In solidarity,
Deb Haaland
