John,
Last week, New York Times columnist Ezra Klein suggested the ridiculous idea that those who oppose the decimation of democracy in our country should include anti-abortion viewpoints as a strategy. [1]
To which we say – and have said throughout our entire decade of existence – absolutely not. Show you agree with a donation today.
I co-founded Reproaction with Pamela Merritt, precisely to fight against this kind of “big tent” thinking. We were frustrated with the defensive crouch of the supposed champions of reproductive rights, their celebration of compromises as victories, and their insistence that we embrace and work with people who made it clear that their ultimate goal was to remove bodily autonomy. There has been massive culture change around this issue, in part because voters have proven: Abortion is a winning issue with support from voters from all parties. Now Ezra thinks we should go back to apologizing for abortion.
We wouldn’t do it then and we won’t do it now. Give to support bold, direct action that actually fights for abortion rights.
Now especially is not the time to play this game. Abortion is popular! Abortion is winning! Almost every time it has been on the ballot, voters have chosen to keep or expand reproductive health care.
Why would we compromise now? Donate to help end anti-abortion lies in their entirety.
Sincerely,
Erin Matson
Co-Founder, Director, and CEO, Reproaction
P.S. A big tent cannot and should not include those who want to take away the rights of others. This isn’t the company anyone should keep. Donate now.
