Last night, Congressional Republicans failed to advance bipartisan legislation to keep the government open and to address America’s growing and urgent health care crisis. As they have reminded us since inauguration day, Trump and Republicans control Washington, and yet they can’t even keep the lights on?

Republicans have completely and totally failed in their responsibility to fund the government. In fact, many House Republicans didn’t even bother to show up to DC this week as the government neared the critical deadline.

Republicans decided to shut the government down instead of addressing the current health care crisis. According to a KFF report, ACA Marketplace healthcare premium costs are going to skyrocket if Republicans end the ACA tax credits. This will impact around 22 million Americans, including over 500,000 people in Ohio.

My Democratic colleagues and I were clear that we would not serve as a rubber stamp for a budget that continues to cut access to health care. Republicans are failing the American people – and I remain committed to reopening the government, protecting health care and lowering costs.

We cannot allow Republicans to continue to sweep our nation’s most dire issues under the rug. It’s time for real solutions.
