** Sign up to volunteer at No Kings 2. We need you!
------------------------------------------------------------

Our second No Kings march will take place on Saturday, October 18th. We’re gathering at Sue Bierman Park, just north of Embarcadero Plaza and will march to Civic Center Plaza for a rally.
Please sign up to volunteer today ([link removed]) , and ask your friends to sign up.

We’re trying Cryptpad, an alternative form service since some folks have concerns about giving their data to Google. Please let us know if you have any trouble.

If you’re uncomfortable filling out online forms, respond to this email and let us know what you’d like to do (you can consult the form without submitting it) and we’ll add you to the corresponding No Kings 2 volunteer group.

In addition to volunteers, we’ll also need money. We’ll use your donations to bring good sound, good signs, and more to No Kings and future events (protests and other). Please send your donation to our Venmo ([link removed]) or our ActBlue ([link removed]) .

You can also put up flyers. (Be sure to follow DPW’s rules about posting signs ([link removed]) .) You can print your own ([link removed]) at home, or at your library ([link removed]) , or on our website; or, sign up for the volunteer form above so our coordinator can get some to you!

Get more details on our website at [link removed]. And start spreading the word: on Saturday, October 18, we say NO KINGS!

** Promote No Kings 2 and ISF at Hardly Strictly Bluegrass this weekend!
------------------------------------------------------------

We are looking for every opportunity to promote No Kings 2 ([link removed]) , and this weekend’s major FREE music festival, Hardly Strictly Bluegrass ([link removed]) , is a great and fun one! Thousands of people from around the Bay Area will flow into Golden Gate Park’s Hellman Hollow and nearby areas this coming Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, October 3–5. Here is the FAQ page ([link removed]) about the festival.

Here’s the ask: if you’re going to this amazing concert, wear your ISF T-shirt, buttons, and any No Kings 2 schwag you may have. Let’s keep getting the word out about this upcoming event and rep ISF! And if you want to help distribute schwag on Saturday or Sunday, sign up here ([link removed]) and let’s schedule getting stuff in your hands.

** Calling Bay Area Indivisible Members: Help Jobs with Justice SF Connect with Business Leaders
------------------------------------------------------------

Jobs with Justice San Francisco is working to bring merchant associations and chambers of commerce leaders together with our communities to stand united in the face of looming threats to our region. We know that when business, labor, faith, and community leaders act together, we are stronger in defending our values and protecting our neighbors.

If you have any connections to local associations or chambers of commerce across the Bay Area, we’d love to hear from you.
Your introductions can help us build the broad united front our communities need right now. Please email [email protected] (mailto:[email protected]) .

With the help of the community, Jobs with Justice San Francisco has been providing confidential Business Know Your Rights trainings to help small business owners protect their staff from federal raids and their employees from deportations. Now, Jobs with justice would like to connect with Merchant Associations and Chambers of Commerce to build a movement and involve them in the work of protecting our communities.

** Tell your Members of Congress: Hold Fast on the Trump Shutdown!
------------------------------------------------------------

The government shutdown that has started today is neither sudden nor a surprise. The MAGA Regime and their Republican Party accomplices have been steadily shutting down the federal government since they took office so that they can cut health care and other domestic safety net programs to fund tax cuts for billionaires. Now they want to give Trump another blank check to fuel his dangerous and illegal power grabs. Their stealth shutdown includes illegally funding impoundments, dismantling entire federal agencies, and mass firings of federal staff—by the end of the year, 12% of all federal civilian workers are going to be out of a job.

The MAGA gang claim Democrats are shutting down the government in order to force a trillion dollars of "new spending." We call BS! Democrats are demanding RESTORATION of the trillion dollars that Republicans CUT from popular programs to fund their billionaire tax break. Their Big Ugly Bill included the biggest cut to Medicaid in the program’s history, triggered half a trillion dollars in cuts to Medicare, and also the expiration of Obamacare tax credits that American families rely on for their health insurance.

It's time to stop the smoke and mirrors. There is no point in negotiating or voting for spending bills so long as wannabe-king Trump is allowed to unilaterally ignore those laws, refuse to spend funds authorized by Congress, and fire federal employees for his partisan purposes and personal vendettas. Our Constitution requires that the government serve the people. For the first time in our history, a power-mad autocrat is defying that principle; Democrats must stand fast in opposition.

Tell your Members of Congress ([link removed]) to hold fast! Talk to your friends and family about who is really responsible for the government shutdown.

** Tell your Mayor Lurie: No troops in our streets!
------------------------------------------------------------

Yesterday, Trump and Secretary of Defense Hegseth called on a gathering of top generals to “use American cities as a training ground”, specifically mentioning San Francisco. We’ve witnessed such deployments in LA, DC, and Portland, as well as increased ICE aggression in other cities like Chicago. We’ve seen the debilitating effects this has on the communities there. We understand the terrifying authoritarian overreach that this represents. We see all this and use the mantra our friends in immigrants’ rights organizations use:

Power Not Panic.

We are building strategies in the community to defend against authoritarian attacks. We are preparing an unstoppable, non-violent mass mobilization in No Kings. And we are building power in our state and local governments to stiffen the spines of our elected officials.

Your first call to action against any potential troop deployments is to tell Mayor Lurie to issue a public statement opposing them, and to issue a plan to protect San Franciscans in the event they do happen.

Our Mayor must stand to protect his constituents. Contact him and say: No troops in our streets! ([link removed])

** Support Prop 50 to save our elections!
------------------------------------------------------------

Trump is trying to prevent fair elections by doing a mid-decade redistricting in red states. Prop 50 levels the playing field for the 2026 elections, creating emergency maps in California that balance out MAGA’s changes in Texas.

Unlike in MAGA states, in California voters are being given the power to approve these temporary maps with a ballot measure next month; and these maps will expire in 2030, when the independent commission goes back to work. Our democracy is being threatened, and we need to take emergency measures to save it.

The timeline for saving our elections is very short: Look for your ballot in your mailbox in the next week. That’s just over a week away. Once you get it, please fill it out and mail it back immediately!

We are going door-to-door talking to voters about Prop 50. Door-to-door canvassing is highly effective at motivating voters, and gauging where they stand. Our conversations have been incredibly positive and friendly, with many canvassed householders volunteering to join our efforts.

Read more on our blog. ([link removed])

We need your help! Please sign up to join our canvassing efforts ([link removed]) . Haven’t canvassed before? No problem! Training will be provided, and all canvassing is done in pairs, so you’ll have the support and help of a partner.

** Tell Governor Newsom: SIGN SB 42 to legalize public financing of campaigns and empower voters in CA
------------------------------------------------------------

SB 42 passed the Assembly 59-20 and then its Senate concurrence vote 29-8 at the very last moment!

SB 42, will let voters open the door to public financing of campaigns so any jurisdiction can pass this pro-democracy reform and make elections about ideas not money. Until the bill is signed by the governor, only charter cities, like San Francisco, have this great option. The vast majority of California elections have been excluded.

Contact Gov. Newsom ([link removed]) and tell him to sign SB 42!

** Submit Comments and on Proposed Reconsideration of the Greenhouse Gas Reporting Program
------------------------------------------------------------

In addition to legislative, policy, financial, and law-enforcement attacks on our democracy, the MAGA Regime is engaged in a systematic campaign to gut or eliminate environmental, health, safety, labor, anti-discrimination, and other hard-won regulations and policies.

Their proposed Reconsideration of the Greenhouse Gas Reporting Program (Docket Id. No. EPA-HQ-OAR-2025-0186) would remove requirements for most GHG emitters to report emissions under the Greenhouse Gas Reporting Program and suspend reporting requirements for others until 2034. The proposed rule specifically calls out the petroleum and natural gas systems source category. By removing source data, this rule would undercut scientific, economic, and regulatory analysis of GHG emissions effects, in line with the administration’s denial of climate science and science generally and failure to protect human and ecosystem health.

The comment period ends on Monday, November 3 and the “best assured of consideration” date is Thursday, October 16.

** Trump versus Kimmel: A Sharp Contrast in Perspectives
------------------------------------------------------------

Many of us are keenly aware of the importance of messaging, whether discreetly through symbolism, (e.g., red MAGA hats), or directly from a broadcast studio stage, (e.g., Jimmy Kimmel’s re-entry monologue). The manner of delivery and/or how and what is conveyed can be used as either a weapon to divide or as inspiration towards peace and unity. We need to oppose harmful messages and actions, with truth. As we know, Trump desires to inflame political tensions by targeting blue cities with our U.S. military–now claiming that Portland is a “war-zone”.

We won’t take his bait!

We must protest peacefully and use other means to quell hate and division while standing up for our fundamental rights. We recently saw the power of peaceful dissent and how the internet could propel positive action for causes that matter, like free speech. When Czar Carr strong-armed the removal of Kimmel’s broadcast, people across the nation responded and Disney subscription cancellations skyrocketed ([link removed]) ! Disney lost over 1.7 million subscribers, one analysis said 242,800 subscribers a day. Money talks and Sinclair and Nextstar Media Group have now surrendered to public pressure as well by reinstating Jimmy Kimmel Live across their stations. Internet activism works. Individually we each have impact ([link removed]) , collectively, we wake a sleeping giant. The power of the people did that! And this is just the beginning.
Congratulations America!
