Team – Last night, Trump and his Republican-controlled Congress shut down the government.

Look, I was one of the first senators to announce I would vote ‘NO’ on any budget that did nothing to lower costs or restore the health care they cruelly ripped away. But rather than negotiating with us on a spending bill, Republicans blocked our effort to keep the government open while lowering health care costs. They let government funding expire last night and are now threatening to lay off thousands of hardworking federal employees.

It’s unacceptable.

Nobody wants a shutdown. But the drastic health care cuts Trump and MAGA Republicans made in their Big Beautiful Betrayal could skyrocket folks’ out-of-pocket premium payments by nearly 75%. Nobody can afford that!

And on top of that, Trump’s illegal tariff-taxes are still pulverizing small businesses and driving up inflation on everything else we need, like gas and groceries.

That’s why I’m laser-focused on making life more affordable for working people, not rubber stamping the reckless MAGA agenda. We will continue to stand ready to work with anyone on a budget that actually serves the American people — not corporations and the ultra-wealthy.
