Dear JOHN,
Last night, Republicans decided to force a government shutdown.
I am deeply frustrated. President Trump and Republican leaders continue to prioritize tax breaks for their billionaire friends above the needs of working Americans. Because of the president, health insurance is increasingly too expensive for American families.
This failure to fund the government is the direct result of a brutal and incompetent administration and a Republican-controlled Congress too afraid of Donald Trump to fight for you. This is no accident—it's a deliberate choice. Republicans control the House of Representatives, the Senate, and the White House—and yet, they were unable to pass a budget on their own and unwilling to work with Democrats.
My Democratic colleagues and I will support a spending plan that cancels cuts, lowers costs, and protects healthcare. I won't support another short-term ‘fix’ to an already broken budget.
