We understand that many Americans are directly impacted by the government shutdown. If you would like to pause emails from Team Warner until the federal government reopens, please let us know by completing this form.
Folks –
This is not the email I wanted to send to you today, but unfortunately, at 12:01am this morning, the federal government shut down.
Why? Because my Republican colleagues refused to negotiate a bipartisan agreement that meets the needs of the American people and addresses the dangerous Republican health care crisis.
Now, 20 million Americans are on the brink of experiencing dramatically increased premiums, co-pays, and deductibles. Thousands of federal workers – many right here in Virginia – are facing an unknown amount of time without a paycheck. And many Americans will not have access to the services they rely on from the federal government.
Apparently, Trump's campaign promises to lower costs and increase government efficiency were nothing but empty words – and Virginians and all Americans are worse off because of it.
It’s never been more clear: we need to win back control of Congress for Democrats in the midterms.
The work to protect this seat for Democrats – and flip control of Congress – must continue. If you are in a position to donate, I ask that you consider a contribution to my reelection campaign today.
There's no bipartisan effort in the Senate in the last decade that I haven't been deeply involved with.
So I know this firsthand: there's always a way to meet halfway.
In the four years Democrats were in the majority, we didn’t have ONE shutdown. Because every single time – all 13 funding bills – were negotiated with Republicans.
Congress cannot afford more delay. It’s well past time for the president and congressional Republicans to stop playing games, get serious, and do their jobs – before the American people are forced to pay the price further.
The work continues,
Mark Warner
