On Monday, Lt. Governor Jon Husted spoke at the opening of the new Lakota Cyber Academy in Liberty Township in Butler County. The new school will give area high school students a head start toward a career in the growing fields of computer science and cyber security.
On Tuesday, Ohio Governor Mike DeWine announced that the Ohio Department of Medicaid had received approval from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) for its Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) initiative to enhance and expand Medicaid’s lead abatement program in partnership with the Ohio Department of Health.
Also on Tuesday, Lt. Governor Husted met with faculty and students at the Knox Co. Career Center to learn more about how their partnerships with local employers help inform their curriculum and improve student job placement in the community.
On Wednesday, Governor DeWine announced plans for the development of the Ohio School Safety Center to help prevent school violence. The specialized division of Ohio Homeland Security will be devoted exclusively to the safety of Ohio’s students and schools.
Also on Wednesday, Governor DeWine announced that registration for Building Resiliency: A Pediatric Mental Health Summit is now open. The summit will be held on Thursday, September 26, 2019, at the Sinclair Conference Center in Dayton.
On Friday, Governor DeWine and State Superintendent of Public Instruction Paolo DeMaria today launched a new Student Wellness and Success website that provides resources for schools as they plan how to best provide for students’ wellness needs.
Also on Friday, Governor DeWine toured the Minnesota State Fair with Governor Tim Walz (D-MN) to learn and potentially bring ideas back to the Ohio State Fair. In July, Governor DeWine announced the formation of the "Expo 2050" task force to develop and recommend a long-term plan for the Ohio Expo Center, home to the Ohio State Fair and other nearby attractions.
