Labour conference

London Councils hosted an event at the Labour Party Conference ( [link removed] ) in Liverpool yesterday (30 September) where Cllr Claire Holland, Chair of London Councils, was in conversation with Jim Waterson, Editor of London Centric.

The discussion covered the future of London - from housing and devolution, to economic growth and e-bikes - exploring the challenges, risks and opportunities facing the capital and the role local government has to play in shaping the solutions. This was followed by a Q&A with delegates.

There was a particular focus on the challenges the Fair Funding Review 2.0 poses to boroughs and the need to ensure the key concerns London Councils has raised with the government are addressed. ( [link removed] )

In the evening, we also hosted a reception in partnership with Arcadis and the New Statesman celebrating London’s transport infrastructure ambitions. Guest speakers included: Cllr Holland, Peter Hogg (Arcadis), Ruth Cadbury MP, Muniya Barua (BusinessLDN) and Howard Dawber (Deputy Mayor for Business and Growth). London politicians, businesses and partner organisations came together to celebrate London’s potential for growth through transport infrastructure, including the DLR extension to Thamesmead, the Bakerloo Line upgrade and extension and the West London Orbital.

Case studies in prevention

To celebrate 60 years of the London boroughs, each week, London Councils is sharing prevention case studies highlighting how preventative action by London boroughs is helping to save money and improve the lives of their residents.

This week, our case study is from the London Borough of Redbridge, where the council's “This Has to Stop”, multi-year campaign is combatting sexist behaviour.

You can read LB Redbridge's case study in full on our LinkedIn page here. ( [link removed] )
