If your inbox looks anything like mine, you’re receiving a lot of emails from folks like me. A lot of these messages use scare tactics, and “sky is falling” hyperbole to persuade you to donate.
That’s not how our campaign operates. So right now, I want to explain the real stakes.
Tonight is our first FEC deadline since a MAGA challenger entered the race to make me a one-term Congressman. This opponent has the backing of Mike Garcia. If you were with me when I won this seat back in November, Garcia is the Republican incumbent we defeated.
Flipping this seat turned a lot of heads in the GOP establishment. I was one of a small handful of Democrats that flipped a Republican-held seat in a tough election year. Now, they are doing anything they can to stop our progress – from airing misleading NRCC ads attacking me, to redrawing lines in Texas to cheat their way into protecting their MAGA majority.
We’re facing unprecedented challenges in my first re-election race. California is set to vote on redistricting to offset the undemocratic gerrymandering from Republicans. If it passes, we will see an influx of thousands of new voters in CA-27 – and we need the tools to reach them with my message.
On top of those stakes, our fundraising will become public after tonight’s deadline. All eyes will be on how we perform, and falling short could spell disaster. Will you chip in $3 to stand with me and hold the line for our democracy?
