The federal government is currently heading into its first shutdown in seven years. The House-passed “clean” continuing resolution (CR), which simply continues the same funding levels until November 21st of this year, is the best path forward; yet Senate Democrats refuse to send it to the President’s desk. This is the same CR that Democrats have passed 13 times previously. Today, they have chosen to play political games instead.
“Make no mistake, the failure to keep the government open is the fault of Senate Democrats. Instead of passing a simple CR to give them time to finish the appropriations process, they instead are demanding that Congress revive the unacceptable programs that were just defunded this summer,” stated Kris Ullman, President of Eagle Forum. “Congress and the President kept their campaign promises by defunding NPR, benefits to illegal immigrants, and radical DEI, transgender and racist programs in the One Big Beautiful bill and the rescissions package. Yet, Democrats are demanding that these commonsense cuts be reinstated or they will shut the entire government down, hurting all Americans in furtherance of the very agenda the voters rejected in November.”
Democrats are also seeking to extend the “temporary” Obamacare subsidies that were originally created during the COVID pandemic and are set to expire in December. These subsidies, which line the pockets of insurance companies, can be used to pay for abortions, gender mutilation surgeries on minors, and free healthcare for illegal immigrants. A program that has been a drain on our economy, hides the real costs of Obamacare, and is used to hurt women and children should not be extended in the CR or any other legislation.
“We are grateful that House and Senate Leadership strongly oppose any negotiations to the CR,” continued Ullman. “We urge Congressional leaders and the President to continue to stand strong for the needs of American families and reject any attempts to reinstate the policies that waste taxpayer dollars and divide our nation.”
