In honor of Independence Day, Senator Tammy Duckworth published an op-ed on the meaning of patriotism. We thought it was important enough to share with you today.

Tammy Duckworth is right: protest is built into our DNA as Americans. Our country wouldn't exist without it.

The countless brave citizens protesting racial injustice today are following the great American tradition of speaking up and speaking out against those in power in order to achieve that more perfect union our founders dreamed of.

On the 244th anniversary of our country's liberation, we can think of nothing more patriotic.
