Weekly Poll

I ask. You answer.

Question: Do you agree that the Senate Democrats should shut the government down in order to fight for illegal aliens to have healthcare?

If Senate Democrats refuse to come to their senses tonight and force our nation into an avoidable government shutdown, please know that my office will be open to serve the people of Mississippi's Third Congressional District as the situation develops and as bills come before the House of Representatives for votes. A federal government shutdown could affect many Mississippians.

House Republicans and President Trump are committed to keeping the government open. All spending bills have passed out of the House Appropriations Committee. At every chance, Republicans have worked towards advancing regular order. On September 19th, the House passed H.R. 5371, which would keep the government funded at current spending levels until November 21st. Democrats in the Senate blocked this from being brought before the chamber and attempted to advance a bill that would add $1 trillion to the deficit in just four weeks of spending. Democrats are holding government funding hostage for the chance to permanently extend Obamacare subsidies that were put into place by President Biden during the COVID-19 pandemic. Democrats are attempting to exploit the current budget negotiations to roll back commonsense reforms enacted in the reconciliation bill. Those reforms were designed to protect and strengthen Medicaid for the vulnerable Americans who truly depend on it. Instead, Democrats are pushing to restore Medicare and Medicaid eligibility for individuals who are ineligible, including illegal immigrants, undermining both the integrity and sustainability of these vital programs.

Congress must rein in unnecessary spending. I will keep prioritizing our Mississippi communities and families, and I will continue to advocate for fiscal responsibility and conservative policies through my work in Congress.

Honoring Our Veterans

Harold Cross on my staff was honored to present World War II Veteran Jimmy Holifield with a flag flown over the U.S. Capitol for the occasion of his 99th birthday. Jimmy served in the United States Navy and saw combat in the South Pacific at Leyte Gulf and Okinawa. May God bless Mr. Holifield for his brave service to our nation.

General Harold Cross also presented a flag to the family of Tom Collins, who passed away at the age of 87. Lt. Colonel Collins was a decorated Air Force pilot who served with distinction for two decades. Collins was shot down in combat and served 7 years as a Vietnam POW.  Thank you, Lt. Colonel Collins, for your service to our nation. Rest in Peace.
