The Supreme Court begins its new term this October, but this year feels different. Under Donald Trump’s second term, his administration has weaponized government power against the American people, and the Court’s far-right majority has too often backed him up. From shielding Trump from prosecution, to gutting protections against unconstitutional policies, to undermining voting rights, LGBTQ+ protections, and independent agencies, the court’s far-right justices have enabled his abuse of power at nearly every turn. As Justice Sotomayor warned, “No right is safe in the new legal regime the Court creates.” With so much at stake, it’s up to us – the American people – to join together, resist, and demand a democracy that works for everyone.

Donald Trump and his Republican enablers are tearing down the pillars of our democracy. His MAGA majority on the Supreme Court is preparing to gut more of our rights this fall – attacking reproductive freedom, voting rights, protections for LGBTQ+ people, and more. In Congress, Republicans have abandoned their duty to the people, shielding Trump from accountability and empowering his authoritarian ambitions. And across the country, Republicans are rigging the rules – suppressing votes, gerrymandering districts, and spreading lies about election fraud – all to cling to power at any cost.
This is a coordinated campaign to dismantle our freedoms and silence the American people.
That’s why our fiscal year-end deadline at midnight is a line in the sand. Falling short means starting the year weaker while Trump and the GOP ramp up their assault on our democracy. Hitting this goal means having the resources to fight back – exposing corruption, fighting voter suppression, and mobilizing millions of voters in the midterms that will decide the future of this country. Time is running out. Chip in before midnight and be on the frontlines of the fight to save our democracy.>>

Jimmy Kimmel’s return to the airwaves after a Trump-driven suspension became more than just a TV moment – it was a powerful defense of free speech. In a moving tribute to his late friend Norman Lear, the legendary producer and People For founder, Kimmel reminded viewers that protecting the First Amendment is a patriotic duty. He called out Trump’s attempts to silence comedians, bully journalists, and restrict press freedom, making clear that this fight goes beyond entertainment – it’s about the health of our democracy. Lear devoted his life to defending freedom of expression, and Kimmel’s words carried that legacy forward. Norman would have been proud of Kimmel, and proud of all of us who raise our voices to defend free speech.

A new op-ed from People For president Svante Myrick, shows that Trump’s decision to seize control of D.C.’s police and deploy the National Guard has nothing to do with reducing crime and everything to do with consolidating power. The piece highlights the real progress cities have made lowering crime through investments in communities and proven public safety strategies – progress that stands in sharp contrast to Trump’s authoritarian tactics. By using militarized force in an effort to intimidate dissenters and distract from scandals, Trump is advancing the dangerous blueprint of Project 2025, putting democracy and the safety of cities – and civilians – at risk.

As we face a growing wave of authoritarianism and anti-democratic forces, it has never been more critical to secure the future of our democracy and the progressive values that are under attack by right-wing extremists. One way to join this cause is through estate planning to protect the people and things you love, safeguard your assets, and secure a brighter future for our country.
Despite the value of planning, the process is often inaccessible, overwhelming, and expensive — especially to historically disenfranchised communities. That's why we are excited that our partnership with FreeWill offers our supporters an opportunity to create their wills, and plan their estates at NO cost to you.
