FAIR: Democrats are Preparing to Shut Down the Government to Preserve Costly Benefits for Illegal Aliens
The following statement was issued by Dale L. Wilcox, executive director and general counsel of the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR), in regard to the federal government being shut down in order to provide benefits for illegal aliens:
WASHINGTON—“With just hours to go before the federal government shuts down, congressional Democrats are holding fast to their absurd demands that a Continuing Resolution must provide a panoply of costly public benefits and tax credits to illegal aliens.
“Rather than passing a clean CR that keeps the federal government functioning for the benefit of the American people, Democrats are insisting that Medicaid and Medicare benefits, and Obamacare tax credits be made available to illegal aliens. At the same time that Democrats are compromising the well-being of American citizens by this unnecessary shutdown, they are also jeopardizing the livelihoods of federal workers who may not be able to work after the government goes dark at midnight.
“Americans want fiscal responsibility at all levels of government. What they should not be asked to accept are benefits for illegal aliens being protected at the cost of seeing their government shut down.”
