Everyone, from students to governors, should have tailored, secure access ([link removed]) to information to drive student success, economic mobility, and systemic change.

Right now, too many states’ investments in statewide longitudinal data systems ([link removed]) are not reaching their full potential because data is hard to find, static, and out of date. Without access to timely data, decisionmakers at all levels are left in the dark.

To transform state data systems into tools that work for people, states must prioritize meaningful access to data that can inform pathways, transitions, and policies at every level.
* Individuals and the people who support them in navigating transitions, like students ([link removed]) , their families ([link removed]) , job seekers ([link removed]) , and counselors, need access to tailored, secure dashboards that enable them to draw insights and view aggregate and trend information side by side with individuals’ own data pulled in from local or other sources.
* Members of the public need user-friendly, dynamic dashboards, reports, and open data tools that display indicators they can disaggregate by population and geographic region.
* State-level policymakers and system leaders, like legislators ([link removed]) , community college leaders, local workforce boards, and district leaders ([link removed]) , need functionality that enables them to investigate new policy questions and helps them direct the future of the state’s education and workforce investments.

The bottom line is that data access needs depend on the user—but every user deserves to have secure access to the right data at the right time.
