LULAC SHARES A MESSAGE FROM THE FAMILY OF THE LATEST VICTIM IN THE ATTACK AT THE
DALLAS ICE FACILITY

Nation's Oldest and Largest Latino Civil Rights Organization Calls for Unity and
Solidarity in Their Grief Following the Passing of a Husband and Father

DALLAS — The League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) today confirms with
profound sorrow the passing of Miguel Ángel García-Hernández, 32, who succumbed
to his injuries after being removed from life support following the September 24
sniper attack on the Dallas ICE facility. The attack claimed the life of another
detainee, Norlan Guzmán-Fuentes, 37, and left García-Hernández gravely wounded.

"My husband Miguel was a good man, a loving father, and the provider for our
family," said his wife, Stephany Gauffeny. "We had just bought our first home
together, and he worked hard every single day to make sure our children had what
they needed. His death is a senseless tragedy that has left our family shattered.
I do not know how to explain to our children that their father is gone,” she
added.

Miguel leaves behind his wife, expecting their fifth child, and four young
children who adored their father. The family had recently moved into their first
home, a milestone Miguel worked tirelessly to make it possible. To support
Miguel’s wife and children as they face this life-changing tragedy, a GoFundMe
account [ [link removed] ] has been created. Contributions are
welcome from all who wish to help support them in their grief and uplift their
hope.

LULAC stands in full solidarity with the García-Hernández family, carrying their
message and calling on all people to honor his memory by rejecting violence and
ending divisive rhetoric. Every individual's life deserves dignity, including
that of Latino immigrants, millions of whom contribute daily to the fabric of
America. This hatred must stop. It is time for our nation to come together in
compassion, unity, and respect for human life.
