Dear John,
As your Congressman, I want to share important information about how the so-called “Big Ugly Law” and the threat of a government shutdown could impact families right here in Illinois’s 7th District.
This law puts billionaires and big corporations first while leaving working families to pay the price. In our community, residents covered under the Affordable Care Act face nearly $900 in higher premiums. Across Illinois, more than 535,000 people could lose health coverage, 205,000 could lose food assistance, and 154,000 students risk losing Pell Grants that make college affordable.
The harm does not stop there. Nine rural hospitals are at risk of closing, 22,000 jobs could be eliminated, families will pay an average of $400 more in energy bills, and more than 13,800 federal workers in IL-07 face uncertainty from layoffs tied to a government shutdown.
These cuts are not about fiscal responsibility, they are about shifting resources away from working people to benefit the wealthiest. That is why I am fighting to reinstate Medicaid, protect SNAP, safeguard Pell Grants, and fully fund the federal programs that keep our communities strong.
Healthcare is not a privilege; it is a right. I will continue to work every day to ensure families in IL-07 have access to the care, jobs, education, and resources they need to thrive.
Thank you for your trust and partnership. Together, we will protect our community.
