STOP Cuts to Safe Water in the Annual Spending Bill!

([link removed])

With today’s deadline looming for Congress to pass a bill to fund the federal government, Trump and Congressional Republicans are threatening a shutdown – and cuts to critical funding for safe food and clean water.

Congress needs to hear from us – to stand firm against attempts to cut safe food and clean water, and prevent any backdoor schemes to claw back funding after it’s approved.

More than 200 organizations have joined our call to Senate Democrats who have the power to stop this. Defend safe water funding and tell Congress to reject backdoor cuts! ([link removed])

Fighting for Climate Action in California

In September, the California Legislature passed a suite of bills backed by Big Oil, including a proposal pushed by Governor Gavin Newsom that would make it easier to drill in the state's most polluted areas and create a pathway to end the state's moratorium on CO2 pipelines.

So when legislators returned to Sacramento this fall, we met them there to send a clear message. With allies, we unfurled banners in the Capitol rotunda ([link removed]) calling on Governor Newsom and the legislature to stand up to Big Oil.

Victory! Public Pressure is Working to Defend Clean Water.

As a result of public pressure and over 20,000 messages from Food & Water Watch members, the EPA recently announced that it’s maintaining two critical protections for our water — on lead and PFAS.

The Lead Out of Water Rule will remove lead from drinking water pipes for almost every community in the U.S. In August, the agency announced it would defend the rule in court! This month, the EPA also announced that it would uphold polluter pay rules ([link removed]) that put the responsibility for paying for PFAS cleanup where it belongs — on chemical manufacturers.

These are big wins for our water that wouldn’t have been possible without your advocacy!

The Fall issue of our Livable Future NOW newsletter is online!

Fall has arrived! And so has your fall issue of our Livable Future NOW newsletter online!

This issue highlights the dangers of toxic lead in our drinking water — a serious problem in communities nationwide. There’s no safe level of lead exposure, particularly for children.

Read about how your generosity and advocacy saved an important water safety rule ([link removed]) designed to replace old, outdated lead water pipes, and how you can keep fighting for everyone’s right to safe, clean water.

Climate-fueled flooding threatens clean drinking water for MILLIONS across the U.S.

Weeks after Hurricane Helene swept through Asheville, NC, residents still did not have clean drinking water. Our new research details how flooding endangers the critical infrastructure that delivers clean water for millions of people in the U.S.

Climate change will make things worse — and so will the massive spending cuts that Trump and congressional Republicans are fighting for. Learn more about flooding’s threat to our drinking water here. ([link removed])

Tell Congress: No Immunity for Big Oil!

The fossil fuel industry is seeking blanket immunity from climate accountability. This "get out of jail free" card would allow them to keep raking in record profits while we all pay the price for their pollution.

We can’t give this toxic industry any more free passes when our communities are burning, flooding, and being destroyed by climate change. Tell your representative to oppose this Big Oil bailout! ([link removed])

Join Us for an Author Talk!

Rachel Frazen and Sharon Udasin’s new book, Poisoning the Well, details how toxic PFAS “forever chemicals” came to contaminate our drinking water and course through the veins of 97% of people living in the U.S.

Join us October 15th for a virtual conversation with the authors ([link removed]) as they explain how PFAS makers hid the crisis of their making, and how the people most harmed by PFAS are now fighting to fix a broken regulatory system.
