A government shutdown is growing more likely by the hour and this one could be worse than any before. Help No Labels send a message to leaders in Congress to work NOW to avert a shutdown tonight.

John,
The day that No Labels has warned about ([link removed] ) for a month has come: The government will shut down tonight at midnight, barring a last-minute miracle.
We urge both parties to take the commonsense route and keep the government open. Shutdowns are always a bad idea, and America never comes out better because of them.
Republicans and Democrats both bear responsibility for the current quandary. Republicans have made no effort to work with Democrats during the budgeting process, instead antagonizing them with rescissions and boxing them out of the negotiating room. What did they think would happen?
Democrats now have the power to take the high road, but they do not appear eager to do so. When a party forces a shutdown, it is because they want leverage to make demands. Democrats have something important they want: extending Affordable Care Act subsidies to prevent health insurance costs from rising.
But they do not need a shutdown to gain leverage on this issue. The subsidies are expiring this year and there is growing bipartisan support for ensuring premiums do not rise. Old-fashioned dealmaking could yield progress without the peril.
Instead, Democrats are choosing to play with fire, and we all know why. They and their progressive base want to fight, fight, fight, and are eager to make a show of it. They are tired of being perceived by some as rolling over for President Trump.
They should be careful what they wish for. A shutdown is not going to end well for Democrats or the nation. See here ([link removed] ) where we detail many of the ways shutdowns impact every single American.
There are also reasons to believe this time could be worse. At the end of the day, Republicans have power to steamroll this process—and there are already whispers that they may abolish the filibuster to reopen the government.
If you have followed No Labels for a while, you know that abolishing the filibuster is our reddest of red lines. It is the only mechanism left to force the parties to work together. Both parties have been tempted to abolish it when in power, but have shown restraint – knowing that the filibuster serves their interests when they are in the minority.
But that restraint may not last much longer, not if a government shutdown stretches for weeks or longer, as this one might.
ASK LEADER SCHUMER AND LEADER JEFFRIES TO KEEP THE GOVERNMENT OPEN
([link removed] )
Republicans bear responsibility for getting us here, but Democrats are now playing a dangerous game by going to the mat with President Trump. They do not have the power to shape the outcome of a shutdown. But they do have the power to do the right thing today, before it is too late.
We urge Senator Schumer and the Democratic leadership to be the adults in the room and avert this crisis. Otherwise, it will end poorly not just for them, but for our country.
This is the last train out. With only 12 hours remaining, we need our entire community on board.
Please call Leader Schumer and Leader Jeffries ([link removed] ) and implore them to take the common sense route by keeping the government open.
Sincerely,
Dan Webb
