Ya’ll, today is the most important day of this campaign so far.
Our first FEC deadline is at midnight tonight.
I’m sure you’ve heard about it. I’m sure you’re sick of hearing about it.
But in the world of deadlines, it’s one of the big ones – so I wanted to use this post to explain why it’s so important and how it will affect our ability to win in Texas.
If you don’t need to hear anymore – and you’re ready to chip in to help us bring strong new leadership to Texas and win in November, donate here. [ [link removed] ]
Anybody who wants to run for office at the federal level has to file with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) to make it official. At the end of each quarter, a three-month period, every campaign is legally required to report their fundraising numbers: how much they’ve raised and how many donations they’ve received.
And here’s the big deal: These reports are open to the public. You can simply go onto the FEC website, search for a campaign of your choosing, and get a clear view of their finances.
Everyone – the media, our opponents, and our supporters – looks at these numbers to gauge the strength and viability of our campaign. It all boils down to one simple question: Do they have what it takes to win?
The press and pundits will be watching to see whether Texas’ Senate race – and our campaign, specifically – deserves airtime, attention, and promotion. Is it worth featuring us on their nightly broadcasts or highlighting our campaign in their articles and social media posts that reach millions of people?
My opponents will be watching to see if we’re a real threat. It’s one thing to have experts and polling saying you can win (which we do – the most recent poll has me up by 2 points over Ken Paxton!) – it’s another to have the resources to back it up. A weak report could signal that we’re vulnerable to attack ads, encouraging opponents to increase their budgets. A strong report might make them think that their money is better spent elsewhere.
Potential supporters will be watching to see whether this grassroots movement is worth the investment. It’s a heck of a lot more motivating to give your hard-earned money to those who look like they have what it takes to win. Momentum is a powerful force.
That’s why these FEC deadlines are so important – and since this is the first one of our campaign, honestly… we have to crush it.
One more reason why these FEC deadlines are so important, particularly for candidates like me? I reject corporate PAC money.
I’m running a grassroots campaign powered by $5 and $25 donations from everyday people – and I wouldn’t have it any other way. I don’t want to be beholden to big corporations and their wealthy executives and stakeholders. I want Texans to know that my vote isn’t for sale. When I vote for a bill or push a policy, it’ll be coming from me and me alone.
It’s this kind of transparency that we need more of today to restore trust in the political system and make sure politicians serve their constituents, not special interests.
But listen, this style of fundraising doesn’t come without its challenges. I have to lean on you much more than other candidates, especially my MAGA opponent. He already has nearly $6 million in the bank, and right-wing super PACs are behind him with millions more.
We can defeat him – and polls show that I’m the only Democrat with a path to victory in this race – but it’s going to take all of us pitching in.
So folks, I hope you understand why this FEC deadline is so important. If you’re ready to flip Texas blue and kick a Trump loyalist out of the Senate, now is the best time to chip in. You’ll not only be giving us the tangible resources to build the critical campaign infrastructure we need to win, but you’ll be showing the country that we’re a force to be reckoned with.
Please, before the midnight deadline, will you make a donation to help us file the strongest FEC report possible, fuel our grassroots movement, and win in Texas? [ [link removed] ]
Colin Allred is a fourth-generation Texan, former NFL linebacker, and Democratic congressman running for U.S. Senate. Multiple polls already show him in the lead – including the most recent poll from this race that has him up by 2 points – but with corporate PACs and right-wing millionaires pouring money into Texas to stop him, he relies on supporters like you to fund his campaign. With his major FEC quarterly deadline coming up, our campaign needs to raise $350,000 before 11:59 PM tonight – will you make a donation today to help Colin deliver real change for Texas families?
