Folks —
The fourth of July is a time to remember how lucky we are to be Americans. And while the celebrations might look a little different this year, I am always grateful to take this day to stop and recognize the great strides we have made as a nation – and the work that remains and the promises left unfulfilled.
Because as we celebrate, I am reminded of just how fragile the great American experiment is. The chaos and corruption of the Trump administration are testing the strength of our democracy and the values laid forth in our founding documents. Now, more than ever, it is important that we hold those in power responsible to preserve our great nation.
So while we might not gather for fireworks or parades this year, I hope you’ll start some new traditions, like checking your voter registration status or committing to volunteer on a campaign you’re passionate about.
It will take all of us – every individual citizen – rolling up their sleeves this year to restore principled leadership to our government and begin the hard work of repairing the damage wrought by Trump on our values and our institutions. And I think the birthday of our great nation is the perfect moment to recommit to the fight for our democracy and our values.
Happy 4th of July, folks. Celebrate safely.
