John —
Yesterday, at the DNC convention in San Francisco, the DNC leadership
voted against the proposal to have a party-sponsored Climate Debate in the
Democratic primary.
But there is a silver lining. Thanks to the incredible efforts of
organizations like the Sunrise Movement, a DNC committee passed a
resolution that would “encourage candidates to participate in
multi-candidate issue-specific forums with the candidates appearing on the
same stage, engaging one another in discussion.”
That’s massive — and something no one thought would happen. Candidates
must present serious, bold solutions that match the scale of the crisis.
This is an existential crisis with millions of lives on the line, meaning
candidates with weak records and plans without substance must be held
accountable.

DNC is continuing to meet and debate over the climate debate. We need a
new generation of progressive leaders in Congress who will fight to pass a
Green New Deal, even if we get a Presidential candidate who won’t. Will

Our opposition is organizing. One of the strongest opponents of the
Climate Debate was a senior Joe Biden adviser — arguably the candidate who
would have the most to answer for. She said, “if we wanted to make
substantive changes to our primary process, a conversation we should have
had last summer.”
Biden's campaign is trying to kill the climate debate. That's not the
leadership we need in our party. And that means the fight isn’t over. The
convention is still happening, and grassroots groups are ramping up the
pressure to get another vote on allowing a climate debate. We’re not
giving up, and as more and more people learn about the DNC’s refusal to
allow a party-sponsored debate on the defining issue of this generation,
the voices demanding an explanation grow louder and louder.

elect a new generation of leaders who will rise to the challenges that we
face, and pass a Green New Deal. Help us keep up the fight with a
