96 [link removed] Fellow American,
Today, we celebrate our nation’s independence. Nearly 250 years ago, a
bold group of patriots banded together to sign the Declaration of
Independence. The war had already begun, but this marked the first time
all 13 colonies united against the oppressive British government.
It’s a unity I hope all Americans are thinking about today.
We face a
unique set of challenges, from a global pandemic to ongoing unrest after
the brutal murder of George Floyd. As I have shared with you before, I
support efforts to create a more perfect union. That includes police
reform and increased efforts to end racism once and for all.
But like
so many Nebraskans, I still agree with President Abraham Lincoln when he
said during the Civil War that we were “the last best hope of earth.”
That's why I oppose mob rule and defacing the memory of American
patriots who fought for freedom.
Mobs have defaced and destroyed
statues and memorials across the country. In Portland, the mob toppled
one of George Washington. They defaced the Lincoln Memorial and the
World War II Memorial in Washington D.C.
Nebraska wasn’t spared, as
vandals tagged the Abe Lincoln statue in our capital. Some even want to
destroy Mount Rushmore in our neighboring state of South Dakota.
That
type of behavior is not who we are – and it does not advance the noble
cause of creating a more just, more fair, more free nation.
I have
faith that we will get through this difficult time and come out better
on the other side, because I have faith in America.
Happy
Independence Day! 🇺🇸
Sincerely,
Deb Fischer

that we need Constitutional conservatives in office to protect the
values America was founded on, please donate $5 or $10 to keep Nebraska
