Hi John,

Happy 4th of July! As we celebrate our nation’s independence this weekend, please take a moment to read this speech from Frederick Douglass, "What to the Slave is the Fourth of July?" [ [link removed] ]

“Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness” are some of the rights we celebrate today. But today is also a time to reflect on the fact that these rights aren’t secure for everyone. While we have made progress since 1852, when Douglass gave this address, there is still much work to be done to reckon with our history of racism. Today, I want to reaffirm our commitment to protecting these rights — for all.

The work marches on.
