Don't normalize cruelty—tell Congress to stop militarization and close detention centers like Fort Bliss!
Dear MoveOn member,
Our cities are not battlefields. The U.S.-Mexico border is not a war zone. Yet troops are also being deployed nationwide to back up Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations.1 And now, the Trump administration is turning military bases into immigrant detention camps—starting with Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas.
This militarized deportation agenda is unprecedented, dangerous, and ripped straight from the authoritarian playbook. This won't stop at Fort Bliss—the administration plans to open detention camps on at least two more military bases soon.2
We refuse to normalize this cruelty, and we will not be complicit in its expansion. Will you tell Congress to stop this militarization and close abusive detention centers like Fort Bliss?
The Trump administration's new detention camp at Fort Bliss, called Camp East Montana, is slated to become the largest immigration detention site in the country, expected to hold 5,000 people in tentlike facilities by the end of 2025.3 Already, migrants have been subjected to cruel and inhumane conditions that violated at least 60 federal standards for immigrant detention.4
The Trump administration's agenda of normalizing military deployments in civilian life without justification, detaining immigrant children in inhumane holding centers, and ripping apart families is chaotic and unjustified.
This is cruelty for cruelty's sake. Add your name to the petition calling on Congress to STOP militarization and close abusive detention centers!
Our lawmakers have a duty to represent the overwhelming majority of Americans who support our immigrant neighbors.5
But while seniors, children, veterans, and families are struggling with rising health care costs, Medicaid cuts, rising prices, and rent, they're funneling billions of taxpayer dollars into walls, troops, surveillance systems, and detention centers.6
Through Fort Bliss, the Trump administration is testing whether it can quietly turn military resources into instruments of mass detention and deportation. We won't let them get away with it—sign the petition.
We are calling on Congress to act decisively and immediately:
We refuse to accept a country where immigrant families being caged and communities living under military surveillance is regarded as business as usual.
Sign the petition now to amplify our demands and be in solidarity with all communities impacted by militarization and detention centers like Fort Bliss.
Thanks for all you do.
