Happy 4th of July! Today we celebrate the founding of our great nation and our decision to be free. We celebrate the formation of a republic based on the guiding principles of democracy, equality, and justice for all.

For over 200 years, our country has prospered because hardworking people were dedicated to ensuring that the United States lived up to the promises enshrined in the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution.

I am proud of where we have come as a country. But I also know that there is still more work to be done.

That’s what motivates me to continue serving in Congress. Because I know that we need to expand healthcare access so that Americans can get good, affordable healthcare. We need to protect Social Security and fight for a cleaner environment. And we need to live up to our promise of freedom, equality, and justice for all people.

I know we all have a collective responsibility to each other to make sure our nation lives up to the words of our founding documents. Together, as a country, I am confident we can do that.
